Michael Mols 9,
Striker Born: Amsterdam
(Netherlands) 17/12/1970
Michael Mols joined the Dutch contingent at
Ibrox when he completed a £4million pound move
in the summer of 1999
He showed early on why Dick Advocaat had
shelled out for his 28-year-old countryman.
He scored two stunning goals on his debut in
Finland against FC Haka, and quickly added 5
Premier League goals in just two starts at the
beginning of the season.
Filling the number 9 role at Ibrox is a
difficult task but Mols is already a favourite
amongst the fans.
His blistering pace and sublime footwork make
him a tough prospect for any opposing defender,
and he gave World Cup winner Lilian Thuram a
tough night when Parma visited Ibrox for the
first leg of their Champions' League qualifier.
But after 20 appearances including 9 premier
league goals in 9 starts Mols suffered a knee
ligament injury against Bayern Munich in the last
game of Rangers Champions' League campaign.
With an operation required it seems fans of
the Dutchman will not see him again until next
season with a suspected 6-9 month lay off to
recover.
How Rangers compensate for the loss of the
uncredibly gifted forward may well have a bearing
on the level of success they achieve this season.
