Billy Dodds 47,
Striker Born: 5/2/1969
Billy Dodds arrived in a whirlwind move from
Tannadice early in December 1999.
An injury crisis forced Dick Advocaat into a
move for a striker following long term injuries
to Michael Mols, Jonatan Johansson and Gabriel
Amato.
But having only hit the top level in the
Autumn of his career Dodds jumped at the chance
of a £1.3million move to Ibrox.
Dodds was a late starter on the international
scene, winning his first cap at the age of 29 but
going on to be a regular in the Scotland team for
the Euro 2000 qualifying campaign.
After a successful switch from Aberdeen to
Dundee Utd where he scored 27 goals in 54
appearances Dodds was recognised as a man who
could score goals when the pressure was on.
Allied with his high work rate, Dodds
goalscoring form caught the eye of Dick Advocaat,
who identified the thirty year old as the man to
carry the goalscoring burden in his injury hit
team.
And with early goals against Motherwell and
one on his Old Firm debut, the fans took to Dodds
quickly.
